Who should get the new vaccine and how to find it
The CDC recommends that everyone over age 50 get Shingrix, which is given in two doses, two to six months apart.
Call your doctor’s office and pharmacies periodically to ask when their next shipments are expected, because GlaxoSmithKline’s online vaccine locator is updated only once a week.
If you can’t find Shingrix right away, experts recommend that you wait and do not get the older, less effective Zostravax vaccine, because Shingrix is more effective in the long term.
If you’ve had the first Shingrix shot and can’t find anywhere that can give you the second, just wait — getting the second even after the recommended six-month period should still be effective.
