Who should get the new vaccine and how to find it

-

The CDC recommends that everyone over age 50 get Shingrix, which is given in two doses, two to six months apart.

 Call your doctor’s office and pharmacies periodically to ask when their next shipments are expected, because GlaxoSmithKline’s online vaccine locator is updated only once a week.

 If you can’t find Shingrix right away, experts recommend that you wait and do not get the older, less effective Zostravax vaccine, because Shingrix is more effective in the long term.

 If you’ve had the first Shingrix shot and can’t find anywhere that can give you the second, just wait — getting the second even after the recommended six-month period should still be effective.
