Santa Clara sets records in win

Santa Clara set program records in assists and first-half home scoring in a 106-68 romp over visiting Portland.

Lindsey VanAllen scored a game-high 22 points, going 4-for-6 on 3-pointers in the process; Emily Wolph scored 19 points, including 16 in the first quarter, and Lauren Yearwood added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Broncos (1215, 5-11 WCC) against the Pilots (12-15, 4-12).

Santa Clara dominated from the start and totaled 32 assists, led by 13 from Tia Hay, and scored 68 points in the first half. It was also the second most points scored against a Division I opponent.

“It was really nice to see how well we shared the ball and it became contagious,” Santa

Clara coach Bill Carr said. “Tia obviously led us in the department and got us going by making good decisions.”

#15 Gonzaga 64, USF 44: Chandler Smith scored 14 points as the Bulldogs (25-3, 14-2 WCC) handed the host Dons their seventh straight loss. Shannon Powell had 20 points for USF (6-21, 2-14).

Pepperdine 77, St. Mary’s 72: Yasmine Robinson-Bacot had 20 points to lead a balanced scoring attack and the host Waves (19-8, 12-4 WCC) held off the Gaels (18-10, 11-6) despite 28 points from Sydney Raggio and 19 points and 11 rebounds from Megan McKay.

San Jose State 73, Air Force 60: Mikaylah Wilson had 16 points and nine rebounds and the host Spartans (4-21, 3-11 Mountain West) beat the Falcons (8-18, 4-11) for their first two-game winning streak of the season.
