Elegance on the waterfront
Contemporary home design at Tiburon property
Classic charm converges with contemporary sensibilities and luxurious indulgences at 149 Jamaica St. in Tiburon, a five-bedroom farmhouse lovingly designed by Francein Hansen, who has lived there since its completion in 2015.
“The home’s setting truly lends itself to indoor/outdoor living,” said Hansen, designer and founder of an organizational app for designers and homeowners called Hyveapp.com. “There’s collapsible glass pocket doors on both sides of the main level. One opens to a courtyard with an outdoor kitchen, spa and water feature, while the other leads to the private boat dock.”
Hansen tapped Thompson Studio Architects for the structural design and collaborated with Mill Valley’s SinglePoint Design-Build on the various fits and finishes infused within the more than 4,800 square feet of living space.
The resulting light-filled two-story modern farmhouse offers smart home automation, a professional kitchen and an indulgent owner’s suite amid a material palette that incorporates Ann Sacks tiles, a Hubbardton Forge chandelier, designer wallpaper and pendant lights by Johnathan Alder and Tom Dixon.
Built for entertaining and functionality, the kitchen enjoys a wealth of conveniences like a pair of dishwashers, a six-burner range, three convection ovens, a bar sink, a temperature-controlled wine closet capable of storing more than 400 bottles and a power strip with 20 outlets in the center island.
Leathered marble tops the island anchoring the kitchen, while honed black granite fashions perimeter counters. These stone finishes complement the matte black cabinetry outlined with walnut trim.
Further extravagances await in the courtyard with an inground spa and tranquil waterfall. The outdoor kitchen hosts a 30-inch Lynx grille with rotisserie and double tap beer kegerator.
Mindful of the home’s farmhouse facade, Hansen folded rustic elements into the design. Concrete tiles fashion the kitchen’s backsplash and clad a fireplace that doubles as a dividing wall between the living and family rooms.
The home offers a wealth of conveniences.
“In regards to technology, we wanted to be up with the times,” Hansen said. “That’s why there are app-controlled elements like the sound system, Nest security cameras, garage doors, spa and water feature.”
Elfa shelving systems line three walls of a three-car garage that could easily accommodate an electric car charger. Solar panels crown the metal roof, generating a wealth of renewable energy for the home.
Blackout shades lend privacy to the owner’s suite, an indulgent getaway that’s accessorized by York designer series Grasscloth Wallpaper. The suite opens to a private deck overlooking San Francisco Bay.
Radiant heating warms the floor in the owner’s suite’s spa bathroom, while a glass enclosed double shower serves as the room’s focal point. A soaking tub lends a luxurious touch, while a pair of marble-wrapped floating vanities create a decidedly contemporary look.
If that weren’t enough, the waterfront home enjoys a private, 70-foot boat dock with custom stands for paddle
