Toe sidelines Angels’ Upton

Angels outfielder Justin Upton is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks because of a toe injury.

Upton ran into the outfield wall while chasing a flyball during an exhibition game last Sunday. The injury initially was diagnosed as a sprain and Upton was placed on the 10day injured list with hopes of returning in mid-April.

Those plans changed after Upton was diagnosed with turf toe on his left foot.

“Can we withstand it? We have to,” manager Brad Ausmus told the Los Angeles Times. “We have no choice.”

A four-time All-Star, Upton hit .257 with 30 home runs and 85 RBIs in 2018.

Lindor update: Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor, who sprained his left ankle last Monday during an intrasquad game, will visit Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wis., on Monday. The orthopedic surgeon specializes in working with professional athletes.

Lindor already was targeted for the IL to open the season because of a strained right calf before he hurt the ankle. Injury report: Seattle placed closer Hunter Strickland on the IL because of a right lat strain . ... Baltimore righthander Alex Cobb, who began the season on the IL because of a strained right groin, pitched in a minor-league exhibition Friday and is on track to start the Orioles’ home opener against the Yankees on Thursday . ... Philadelphia reliever Tommy Hunter, on the IL because of a right flexor strain, felt soreness while rehabbing in Florida on Thursday and his anticipated mid-April return likely will be pushed back as a result.
