_1 Burning Man: The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is recommending attendance be capped at existing levels for the next 10 years at the annual Burning Man counterculture festival in the desert 100 miles north of Reno. Burning Man organizers had proposed raising the current 80,000 limit as high as 100,000 in coming years. But the BLM says in the final environmental impact statement that its preferred alternative for the proposed 10-year renewal of Burning Man’s special recreation permit would stick with the cap that’s been in place since 2017. _2 Officer suicides: New York City police say a 29-yearold officer died in the department’s third suspected suicide in less than two weeks. Police say he shot himself Friday in the head on a Staten Island street near the 121st Precinct to which the officer was assigned. In the wake of the recent deaths, Commissioner James O’Neill reminded the more than 36,000 officers and 19,000 civilians in the NYPD that help is available if they’re feeling depressed, hopeless or otherwise contemplating self-harm. The officers’ suicides come amid a rising nationwide trend: More than 47,000 U.S. suicides were reported in 2017, or 14 per 100,000 — the highest rate in at least half a century. _3 Dolphin deaths: At least 279 dolphins have stranded across much of the U.S. Gulf Coast since Feb. 1, triple the usual number, and about 98% of them have died, say scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Researchers are examining whether lingering effects from the 2010 BP oil spill and more immediate effects from low salinity because of freshwater flowing from high rivers contributed to the deaths, said Teri Rowles, coordinator for NOAA Fisheries’ Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program. _4 Runway mishap: A jetliner blew tires while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Saturday, sending it skidding on the runway before coming to a halt. United Airlines said Flight 627 from Denver was landing at 1 p.m. with 166 passengers when the tires blew. The airline said some passengers with minor injuries refused medical attention and no one was seriously injured. The airport reported resuming flights shortly before 3 p.m. but said to expect delays. It later reported operating in “limited capacity” after the National Transportation Safety Board said the plane shouldn’t be moved until investigators arrived.

_5 Terror case: A Jordanian citizen who was living in Ohio has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to join the Islamic State group. Laith Waleed Alebbini also was sentenced to 25 years of probation, but Alebbini probably will be deported after his prison term. Alebbini, 28, was arrested at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2017. Prosecutors say he was trying to fly to Turkey or Jordan before joining Islamic State group fighters in Syria. He was charged with conspiring and attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization.
