Surrealistic sights, sounds come to park

-

The third annual free Surrealistic Summer Solstice Jam returns to the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Wednesday, June 19, this time evoking the sights and sounds of 1969.

Led by music director Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, the all-star concert is curated by former Hardly Strictly Bluegrass producer Dawn Holliday and features members of Santana, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe McDonald, Norman Greenbaum and a slew of contemporary musicians.

The highlight of the city-sponsored tribute is the “Photosynthesis” light show at 9:15 p.m. that brings the landmark 1879 wood-and-glass greenhouse to life in psychedelic colors. There will also be food trucks, family activities and a Ferris wheel.
