Circus women pitch their tent in the Mission
Remember that game from when you were a little kid, where a group sat in a circle around a tarp then threw it up in the air, holding the edges, so that as you ran underneath, it created a momentary hot-air balloon or mushroom cloud?
A similar activity launches Aloft Circus Arts’ “Brave Space.” The all-female show, on tour from Chicago, begins with a piece of fabric blossoming into a magic-enveloping circus tent featuring trapeze, Cyr wheel and juggling.
If you’ve never been to Little Boxes Theater, the venue’s worth a visit in its own right. It’s just off the part of Cesar Chavez that’s all warehouses and big trucks. You have to buzz to get in, then take a very slow elevator, then coil down labyrinthine passageways. You’ll think you’ve made a wrong turn. But you’re in the right place.
