‘Andy Warhol — From A to B and Back Again’

-

The artist who virtually defined American culture from the late 1960s into the ’70s, who died in 1987, gets the star treatment he always required when alive. Beyond painting and sculpture, Andy Warhol had his hand in film, music, design, photography and — as we learn from this deeply researched exhibition — the social changes surrounding sexual freedom and

identity.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Tuesday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday. Through Sept. 2. $19-$25; ages 18 and younger free. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 151 Third St., S.F. 415-3574000. www.sfmoma.org

Pansy Division

There are tons of parties to hit up during Pride, long lists of DJs playing bass-heavy tracks for sweaty crowds. But if you’re looking for something a little different, a little more punk, then you might want to check out the Ivy Room on Saturday night. It is hosting an evening of live music with Pansy Division — the muchloved and long running queer punk rock band — and the Homobiles and Lolly Gaggers.

8 p.m. Saturday, June 29. $15. Ivy Room, 60 San Pablo Ave., Albany. www.ivyroom.com

Presidio picnic

Pride can be a lot of fun, but it can also be deeply exhausting. Sometimes you just want to get away from the crowds and enjoy a nice summer day. Luckily, the Presidio’s monthly picnic falls on Pride Sunday. The park, of course, is beautiful. But it has the added bonus of being completely removed from all of the crowds. Just bring a blanket — there will be food vendors on hand and a dance performance.

11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 30. Free. Main Parade Ground, the Presidio, S.F. www.presidio.gov

Live on the Square

If you love dancing and appreciate a waterfront view, check out Live on the Square. The free event takes place at Oakland’s Jack London Square. For 10 years it was called Dancing Under the Stars, but it’s been expanded to include more than just dancing. The event kicks off with a 30-minute dance lesson by professional instructor Carla Service, with a different style each week (salsa, Caribbean, swing or hip-hop). Afterward, the square opens up for a public dance party complete with food trucks, artisan vendors, a beer garden, a VR photo booth and live DJ sets.

6-11 p.m. every Friday through Sept. 27. Free. Jack London Square, 472 Water St., Oakland. www.jacklondonsquare.com
