Serene. Private. Bucolic. Inviting. Elegant. These adjectives and superlatives merely being a laundry list of descriptors that apply to 905 Valley View Drive in Healdsburg, a fourbedroom, fivebathroom contemporary farmhouse conceptualized by Alameda architect Nick Lee and finished by Larkspurbased interior designer Marty Osborn.

In addition to the luxurious main residence erected by Tim Grogan Builders, Inc., the gated estate boasts multiple patios, a sparkling pool, a hot tub and a detached structure with an outdoor kitchen and full bathroom. Perched atop a 1.66acre lot minutes south of the Russian River, the twostory overlooks rolling hills and rests just two miles from Healdsburg Plaza.

“What’s really appealing about the home is that it’s at the end of the street and has amazing views overlooking the hills,” Lee said. “Once you enter through the gate, you can’t see your neighbors and it’s like your own private compound.”

Lee’s concept for the home results in both grand public spaces and intimate, secluded areas. The pool patio and outdoor kitchen overlooking the verdant landscape provide the ideal setting for a large garden party, while a pair of smaller patios alongside the home are best suited for smaller gatherings.

“It was important that we create two types of outdoor spaces,” Lee said. “It doesn’t just have to be about the outward, expansive views, we wanted the outdoor spaces to have variation and scale.”

Clad in board and batten siding, the home built in 2018 fully embraces the farmhouse aesthetic. Finishes selected by Osborn keep the design light, airy and welcoming, Lee said.

“It was important that we

chose finishes that kept the design simple and not stuffy,” he said. “We were always leaning toward simpler finishes, rather than overdoing something for the sake of doing it.”

Osborn, principal of Marty Osborn designs, envisions 905 Valley View Drive as a secondary home or weekend getaway, so she purposefully selected materials requiring minimal maintenance.

That’s why she opted for concrete flooring on the main level. Not only does it lend contrast to the reclaimed barn wood ceiling, it also made sense for a public room placed near a large lap pool.

“I thought about people coming from pool into the house and walking around with wet feet,” she said. “With concrete, you don’t have to worry about that damaging the floor.”

Brazilian quartzite, European light fixtures, porcelain tiles and slabs of marble are also part of Osborn’s refined, yet easily maintained material palette.

“I chose Brazilian quartzite for the kitchen because it’s really beautiful and similar to marble, but more durable than granite,” she said. “I really thought about finishes that were easy to clean.”

A temperaturecontrolled wine room lends further luxury to the great room, while a twosided fireplace warms both the living area and an exterior patio alongside the eastern edge of the farmhouse. The great room’s retractable glass walls open to a series of concrete steps descending to the pool patio and outdoor kitchen.

Besides a twocar carport, the gated home includes a detached garage. A meandering driveway beyond the entry gate provides plenty of parking spaces for guests.

A resplendent owner’s suite highlights the upper level. This carpeted suite enjoys a gas fireplace with a stone surround, as well as a sitting room on the opposite end of the suite. Both the bedroom and its adjoining sitting room open to a private terrace overlooking the landscaped backyard, pool patio and treestudded hillsides, and the suite culminates with a sumptuous spa bathroom hosting dual vanities, a freestanding soaking tub and a walkin shower.

But the owner’s suite isn’t the only part of the home with a spacaliber bathroom. A pair of guest bedrooms share an indulgent bathroom lined with woodpatterned tile flooring and finished with a soaking tub and walkin shower.

The lower level also hosts a suite with a shower and access to the pool patio.
