Alice James was taken away suddenly on Saturday June 22, 2019 in San Francisco. Alice was a passionate and loving woman who dedicated her personal and professional life to helping people. She loved life’s simple pleasures like music, conversation, and spending time with family and friends. Alice is survived by her loving daughter, Amanda James; former husband, Daniel James; brother, Gilbert Valdivia; sisters, Elizabeth Wilhelm-Gibson and Carol Valdivia Ferreri; aunt, uncle, and many nieces and cousins.

Alice, born in San Francisco and raised in San Jose, graduated from Presentation High School in 1973. She attended UCSB, where she met her husband of 38 years. In 1984, Alice earned her Master’s of Social Work from SFSU. Alice had a fulfilling career as a social worker for Golden Gate Regional Center, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities, and later for Human Services Agency, where she provided comprehensive social work services to high needs children and their families in San Mateo County and the Coast side migrant community of Half Moon Bay. Although Alice was highly regarded by her peers and received numerous professional recognitions in her years working in social services, she always considered being a mother to her only daughter, Amanda, as her greatest blessing and accomplishment in life. Family and friends whose lives Alice touched are invited to Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City on Thursday July 11, 2019 from 5:00pm 9:00pm where a vigil service will be held at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Friday at 11:00am at St. Cecilia Church, 17th Ave & Vicente St., SF followed by burial services at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
