He moved to San Francisco in 1967, where he served as one of the founding faculty members at the California School for Professional Psychology. His academic career also included roles as Dean of Academic Affairs, Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and as Provost and Dean of Faculty at the Professional School of Psychology in San Francisco. Additionally, Richard was in private practice for over four decades, and served in numerous public sector mental health positions. His professional life was dedicated to relieving the suffering of the marginalized and under-served and developing a new generation of clinical psychologists. Richard was a devoted San Franciscan, lifelong learner, lover of art and music, and spiritual seeker. He was preceded in death by his first spouse, Joan (Fryer) Weiser, and second spouse, Burton Naditch. He is survived by his spouse of 25 years, Mark Bishop, his daughter, Erin, son-in-law, Stephan, and granddaughter, Justine. Donations in his name may be made to the San Francisco & Marin Food Bank.
