Food festivals

-

The Gravenstein Apple Fair serves up applebased food and drink, music, kids activities and more at Ragle Ranch Regional Park in Sebastopol.

Summer harvest gives many local food and drink producers a reason to celebrate. In July, Farm Fresh to You farm in Capay Valley (Yolo County) opens its gates to city folks for an annual tomato festival. And while apples are often thought of as a fall crop, the season of Sonoma County’s beloved heirloom, the Gravenstein apple, starts in August. Other festivals are less pastoral in nature, including the restaurantfocused Eat Drink SF. Here are The Chronicle Food and Wine staff ’s picks.

CAPAY TOMATO FESTIVAL

Head to tomato country during the height of the summer season at this annual celebration, which includes heirloom tomato, olive oil and honey tastings, harvesting, games and a petting zoo. Pack a picnic; there will be drinks to purchase, and camping ($35) at the farm is also an option.

WINE WALK

ON THE WATERFRONT

The waterfront of Jack London Square will play host to 20 Northern California wineries, most of them based in the East Bay, including Dashe Cellars and Rock Wall Wine Co. Live music, artists’ stands and other vendors will be present, too. Some proceeds will go to the Oakland Lions Club.
