Defending champion Tony Romo increased his lead to nine points Saturday in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback turned NFL analyst shot his second straight 2under 70 and scored 25 points for a total of 51 in the celebrity tournament that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. He has played in two PGA Tour events this year.

Warriors guard Stephen Curry eagled the par5 18th hole for the second straight day to get to 30 points, three behind father Dell Curry, who was in 10th place.

Former major league pitcher Derek Lowe and former tennis pro Mardy Fish were tied for second at 42. Actor Jack Wagner was fourth at 38. Former A’s pitcher Mark Mulder, the winner from 201517, followed at 37.

John Smoltz, the Hall of Fame pitcher who played in three PGA Tour Champions events this spring, had 34 points. PGA Tour: Cameron Tringale and Andrew Landry shared the thirdround lead at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill.

Winless on the PGA Tour, Tringale shot a 6under 65 to match Landy at 16under 197. Landry had a 67. He won the Valero Texas Open last year for his lone tour title.

PGA Tour Champions: Scott Parel took advantage of Retief Goosen’s problems to take the thirdround lead in the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship, the fourth of the tour’s five majors, in Akron, Ohio.

Seven strokes behind Goosen at the start of the day, Parel birdied two of the last three holes — holing a 30footer on the par4 18th — for 3under 67 and a onestroke lead over Goosen (75) at Firestone Country Club at 5under 205.
