WELCOME LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

-

Dear Guests:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to a celebration of two facilities opening soon at our airport — Harvey Milk Terminal 1, opening July 23, and the Grand Hyatt at SFO, which will open at the end of September. Both of these projects have been years in the making, and both showcase our commitment to providing an airport experience that is both worldclass and uniquely San Francisco.

For many travelers around the world, SFO is their first impression of the San Francisco Bay Area. With that in mind, we continually strive to create an airport experience that highlights the very best of what our region has to offer, and both Harvey Milk Terminal 1 and the Grand Hyatt at SFO capture that spirit in exciting new ways.

The diverse cuisine of our region is well represented in Harvey Milk Terminal 1 with food and beverage offerings from BayArea based Amy’s Drive Thru, Bourbon Pub, Bun Mee and the Little Chihuahua. Guests will also find internationallyrecognized brands, such as illy Caffè.

The San Francisco region is also rich in the arts, and Harvey Milk Terminal 1 will showcase a wide variety of public artwork for guests to enjoy. This new space features works created specifically for this terminal, including mosaics from Jason Jägel and Robert Minervini, a sculpture by Mark Handforth and installations from Leonardo Drew and Liz Glynn.

Harvey Milk Terminal 1 will also offer a host of features and amenities to surprise and delight every kind of traveler. Free highspeed WiFi and hundreds of power outlets await those who wish to stay productive, while a Kids’ Spot interactive play area is there for families with children. And, for those seeking relaxation and tranquility, Harvey Milk Terminal 1 will feature its own version of SFO’s worldrenowned Airport Yoga Rooms.

But what truly sets this new Harvey Milk Terminal 1 apart is its namesake, the first openly gay elected official in the state of California. As the first airport terminal in the world ates a special sense of place for visitors with a welcoming design, artwork from local artists and a food and beverage program inspired by San Francisco’s worldclass cuisine scene.

I’m so proud to be opening these new facilities — they truly represent the best of our wonderful city. I hope you’ll join me at Community Day on July 20 to experience this for yourself.

Sincerely, London Breed Mayor of San Francisco

named for an LGBTQ leader, this space invites travelers to learn more about Harvey Milk’s life and legacy, through a SFO Museum exhibit that features photos, correspondence and campaign materials that tell his story.

As the first impression for millions of travelers around the world, I am proud that Harvey Milk Terminal 1 will represent his passion for diversity, equality and inclusion, and I encourage you to experience this new facility at Community Day on July 20.

Sincerely, Ivar Satero, Director of San Francisco
