Wondolowsk­i propels Quakes by Whitecaps

Chris Wondolowsk­i had a goal and an assist and the visiting San Jose Earthquake­s beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 31 on Saturday night.

Valeri Qazaishvil­i and Magnus Eriksson also scored for the Earthquake­s (1074).

Doneil Henry opened the scoring for Vancouver (4118) in the seventh minute. The Whitecaps have lost five straight.

San Jose tied it in the 16th minute, with Wondolowsk­i stepping up Qazaishvil­i’s strike.

Wondolowsk­i, the leading scorer in the MLS history, broke the tie in the 34th minute.

It was the ninth goal in 20 games this season for Wondolowsk­i. Only five players in the league have more goals this season than the 36yearold forward from Danville.

Eriksson connected in the 79th.

Darwin Quintero gave Minnesota United the lead in the 57th minute.

Internatio­nal Champions Cup: At Levi’s Stadium, Raul de Tomas scored in the fourth minute and Rafa Silva and Heris Seferovic scored four minutes apart in the second half as Portuguese club Benfica defeated Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajar­a 30 in the exhibition tournament of club teams preparing for the start of their regular seasons.

Elsewhere, Germany’s Bayern Munich beat Spain’s Real Madrid 31 in Houston; Mason Greenwood scored in the 76th minute as England’s Manchester United beat Italy’s Inter Milan 10 in Singapore; and Eddie Nketiah scored once in each half and Joe Willock added a late goal as England’s Arsenal beat Italy’s Fiorentina 30 in Charlotte, N.C.
