McIlroy leads Koepka by 1

Rory McIlroy shot an 8underpar 62 on Saturday at the St. Jude Invitation­al in Memphis to improve to 12under 198, good for a oneshot lead over Brooks Koepka (64) at the World Golf Championsh­ips event.

McIlroy, who missed the cut by a stroke last week in the British Open, had a ninebirdie, onebogey round. He moved from a tie for 17th to the top of the leaderboar­d at TPC Southwind by finishing his round with three consecutiv­e birdies.

Secondroun­d leader Matthew Fitzpatric­k (69) was third, two strokes back. Marc Leishman (63), Alex Noren (66) and Jon Rahm (68) were three shots behind.

LPGA Tour: Cresting a wave of South Koreans atop the Evian Championsh­ip leaderboar­d, Hyo Joo Kim fired a thirdround 65 to move one shot clear of Sung Hyun Park (66) at 15under 198 in the major in Evianlesba­ins, France.

Four shots back in a tie for third place were seventime major winner Inbee Park (69) and Jin Young Ko (66), who won the season’s first major, the ANA Inspiratio­n, in April. PGA Tour: In Reno, Troy Merritt scored five points with a 53foot eagle putt on the par5 18th to take a twopoint lead over Robert Streb in the Barracuda Championsh­ip, the PGA Tour’s only modified Stableford scoring event. Other events: In the Senior British Open, Paul Broadhurst birdied two of the last three holes for a 3under 67 in wet conditions at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, England, giving him a oneshot lead over Woody Austin (68) at 5under 205 . ... China’s Lei Ye, an incoming Stanford freshman, beat Jillian Bourdage of Tamarac, Fla., 1 up in the 36hole final to win the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championsh­ip in Stevens Point, Wis.
