SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Spring training is shut down, but the Giants are mapping out plans to return to the field.

“As far as I know everyone is staying so that we can be ready when they decide it’s time for us to play,” first baseman Brandon Belt said in a text to The Chronicle.

That harmonizes with third baseman Evan Longoria’s tweet: “We’re not leaving!!”

The Giants are deep cleaning their facilities this weekend — biohazard cleaners began by sanitizing the home clubhouse Friday — and said they’re reopening the stadium Monday.

“We have not had an official meeting yet,” Belt said, “but I expect the players to be at the complex when it opens back up.”

The Giants’ minor-league facility at nearby Indian School Park also could be an option for workouts.

Major League Baseball, responding to the coronavirus pandemic, announced Thursday that it canceled spring training and pushed back the start of the season at least two weeks, but it’s likely it’ll be much later.

The league gave players the choice to return home, return to their team’s city or stay in the locales of their Arizona- or Florida-based training camps.

The Giants’ last Cactus League game was Wednesday. They had a scheduled off day Thursday.
