Report: NBA facilities to begin to reopen Friday

-

A person with knowledge of the situation says NBA players will be allowed to return to team training facilities starting Friday, provided that their local governments do not have a stayathome order.

Any workouts that take place would be voluntary and individual sessions only, according to the person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Group practices would not be allowed, and teams will not yet be permitted to organize inperson workouts.

The NBA’s move is not a sign that a return to play is imminent. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has said on several occasions that the league does not anticipate being able to decide until May at the earliest if a resumption is possible. The NBA suspended the season March 11. It ordered teams to shutter their practice facilities on March 19.

Wake Forest fires Manning as coach

Danny Manning never built a winner at Wake Forest. Now the school is looking for a new coach and direction.

Wake Forest fired the former Kansas and NBA player after losing seasons in five of his six years with one NCAA Tournament appearance. The move came more than six weeks after the Demon Deacons lost to Pittsburgh in the opening game of the ACC tournament, ending the season shortly before the coronavirus pandemic shut down college and pro sports.

Manning, a former No. 1 overall NBA draft pick, went 78111 in WinstonSalem, N.C., with a 3080 mark in ACC regularseason games. Those league struggles included a 649 mark in league road games and a 16 record in the ACC tourney.

“I wish the program nothing but success going forward,”

Manning said in a statement released by Wake Forest. Gonzaga sophomore guard Joel Ayayi and Texas Tech freshman guard Jahmi’us Ramsey declared for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent. Broadcasting: Retired Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully is back home after falling and being hospitalized.

The team quoted Scully on Twitter saying, “I’m home and resting comfortably with my wife and we are both eagerly awaiting the Time for Dodger Baseball!” That’s a phrase announced before the start of every Dodgers home game.

The 92yearold fell Tuesday at his Los Angelesarea home. Soccer: Dutch topflight club FC Utrecht is preparing for legal action to fight the Royal Netherlands Football Association’s decision to cancel the remainder of the league season and allocate places in next season’s European competitions based on the standings when play was halted by the coronavirus crisis.

When the season was canceled, Utrecht was sixth in the Eredivisie, three points behind fifthplace Willem II in the last Europa League spot.
