1944- 2020

-

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, John C. Enos, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Born in the Sunset District of San Francisco, John was the son of John Kelly Enos and Catherine T. ( O’Looney) Enos and brother of Patricia Enos. The family moved to San Rafael in 1954, and John attended St. Raphael’s Grammar School. It was there he developed a passion for the game of basketball playing in the CYO program for his coach and mentor, Louie Freitas. From 1958- 1962, John attended Marin Catholic High School and excelled as a forward on MC’s varsity basketball team. The friendships he made at both St. Raphael’s and Marin Catholic were life- long and enduring.

Following high school, John attended College of Marin and later transferred to the University of San Francisco ( USF) where he earned a degree in marketing. At the age of 27, John began his career with Clementina Ltd., an equipment rental company based in San Francisco. The company’s equipment rental division was eventually bought by Rental Service Corporation ( RSC), and John continued working for RSC until his retirement in 2010.

John met his wife, Jean Briner, in San Francisco during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. They married a year later in 1976 and bought a home in San Rafael where they raised their children: Catherine, Jennifer and John. The family enjoyed memorable trips together including camping trips throughout the western United States, 4th of Julys in Whispering Pines and wonderful vacations in Hawaii. John loved the SF 49ers, and playing golf and fishing with his close friends. John coached CYO basketball at St. Raphael’s for decades and in 1998, he moved on to become the assistant coach for the varsity girls’ basketball program at Marin Catholic High School - a role he relished for 17 years. John instilled in his players not only a love for the game, but also the importance of teamwork, confidence, and grit. John retired from coaching in 2014 and was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia shortly thereafter.

John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean B. Enos, his daughters, Catherine Enos and Jennifer ( Enos) Imbimbo, his son- in law, John Imbimbo, his son, John Enos, grandchildren Adeline and John Imbimbo, his sister, Patricia Enos, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Kay and Jack Enos.

John’s ashes were interred at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in San Rafael on December 11, 2020. Due to Covid- 19, a celebration of John’s life will be held at a future date.
