Louis Michael Levin
July 14, 1937 - Dec. 22, 2020
Louis M Levin, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22 in Modesto. Born in Los Angeles on July 14,1937 the first of five children to Stanley and Ruth ( Broudy) Levin, he was raised in San Francisco, graduating from Lowell High School. He attended college in Philadelphia and served in the US military. Louis worked for the family’s scrap metal business in Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1960, he married his first wife Rosalind Sue Parlow and had 3 children. In 1969, he found his way to Modesto, and called it home ever since.
Louis was a real estate broker in the greater Modesto area for over 45 years, starting in the mid 1970s. He earned the status of REALTOR ® Emeritus, a peer nominated recognition for 40+ years as an involved leader and member of the National Association of REALTORS ® . He loved selling real estate and continued until a surgery sidelined him in 2018.
Louis was very involved in the community, always passionately, wishing to make Modesto a wonderful place to live. He was integral in bringing international attention to Modesto as part of the well known professional bike race bike, Amgen Tour of California. As a member of Kiwanis and rotary clubs for close to 50 years, he organized numerous fundraisers for many city improvements. The revitalization of the Virginia Corridor Trailway, assisting with physical labor as well as selling personalized markers to help raise funds is one remembered fondly. He had many passions including road cycling, in which he completed many events throughout most of the United States and even a couple in Europe. He had a fun old telephone collection. And of course, there are his beloved British cars. You could often find him working on some project ( wood working, landscaping, deck repair and more) in his extremely organized garage. He preferred a really good book, fiction, non fiction and history; he was always open to learning and healthy dialogue. Louis enjoyed a great scotch and could be found having one every night at 5.
Louis is survived by his daughters Diane Levin Takaki ( husband Matt) and Nancy Melmon; grandchildren Julia, Rebecca and Eli Melmon; sisters Frieda Liebman ( Brad), Myra Williams ( Rick) and Susan Wayne and brother Charles Levin ( Feralee); 7 nieces ( Lisa, Amy, Ellen, Ruth, Karen, Jessica & Rachel) and longtime companion Kathy Miller.
