Rose G Chetcuti, 88, died of complications from a weak heart with her family by her side on Saturday, December 19, 2020, in Elk Grove, California.

Rose was born on the island of Malta in the village of Mosta on July 17, 1932. She was born to mother Carmela Sammut and father Joseph Sammut Sr. and was the second of nine children. She and her husband Benny decided to move to Toronto, Ontario Canada in 1953. After 14 years in Toronto they moved to San Francisco, California in 1967 and then to South San Francisco in 1968 where she lived for 46 years. Her late husband Benny Sr. predeceased her in 1999. Rose was the mother of Sam Chetcuti, Dianne Cuniffe, Benny Chetcuti Jr. and Rosemarie Butler.

After moving to California, Rose worked as a marker for the Macy’s warehouse on Paul Avenue in San Francisco. Superseding her job was the love and pride she had in keeping a pristine house along with the well- being of her husband, 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren before her own.

Rose was a 53 year member of the Maltese American Social Club of San Francisco. When she lived in South San Francisco, Rose would first attend Mass at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church and then head to the Maltese Club which is located in South San Francisco and meet with friends. Rose would spend hours talking with her friends almost every Sunday. She also loved to attend the different dinner/ dance parties that the Maltese Club would have frequently throughout the year.

When her husband was alive, he and Rose travelled the world extensively. Rose loved these travels but her first care even when she was abroad was the health and well- being of her children.

Rose Chetcuti leaves behind her children Sam, Dianne, Benny Jr. and Rosemarie. Her brothers Joe Jr., Louis and Johnny as well as sisters Doris, Helen, Mary and Gemma. She also leaves grandchildren Nicholas, Michelle, Jordan, Ashley, Morgan and Madison and Great- grandchildren Landon, Mackenzie, Audrey, Mason, Charlotte, James, Ella and TJ. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
