John Joseph Linney

John Linney passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Friday, January 15, 2021. John was a loving husband of 66 years, father, brother, uncle, grandfathe­r, greatgrand­father, and friend. A San Francisco native, John and his wife, Claire, met, married, and started their quickly growing family in San Francisco. They later moved to San Jose, together raising nine children. John was a United States Marine Corps veteran and proud San Francisco fireman, serving the community for 26 years. Shortly after he retired, John and Claire settled in Arnold, CA, enjoying 32 happy years amidst the mountains. Together they enjoyed visits with family and friends, yearly trips to Palm Springs to catch warmer weather in the winter, and volunteeri­ng for their local parish and community. Papa John will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his commitment to service, and his love for his family. John will be missed dearly by his devoted wife Claire Linney, their nine children, Gary and Pam Linney, Janet and Don Hislop, Mike and Annette Linney, Neil and Julie Linney, Dennis and Mary

Linney, Bill and Terry Linney, Mary and Steve Mantor, Sue and Kris Arrouzet, and Ken Linney, his in-laws Barbara McCarthy, George and Maureen McCarthy, Patti Geramoni, Alan Dean, and Connie Linney, his twenty-four grandchild­ren, his two great-grandchild­ren and counting, and his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Frank Linney, his brothers-in-law Joseph McCarthy, Roy Pavia, and Steve Geramoni, and his sister-inlaw Marie Dean.

Due to COVID-19, a private committal will be held for his immediate family at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Murphys, CA.
