Charles E. Norman, a retired probation officer with the San Francisco Probation Department, died unexpectedly January 16. He was 77. Mr. Norman, a resident of the Bay Area for more than 50 years, lived in Oakland. He was a native of Corinth, Mississippi, a graduate of Southern Illinois University, and a former Peace Corps volunteer. For the last 10 years he served as a docent on the former Franklin D. Roosevelt yacht, the USS Potomac, which was docked at Jack London Square.
In addition to several cousins and family members in Mississippi, he is survived by his lifetime partner, Larry P. Miller of San Francisco.
