For more than three decades, the Alexander String Quartet has been a stalwart presence in the Bay Area’s musical world. The group serves as ensemble in residence for San Francisco State University and performs widely and skillfully across the region.

That presence will continue, but with a notable change after founding violist Paul Yarbrough retires from the group this season. In one of his last appearances with the quartet, Yarbrough is set to join his longtime colleagues in a performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13 in BFlat, Op. 130.

The quartet’s recital begins the spring season for Burlingame’s Music at Kohl Mansion, whose online offerings in the coming months include appearances by the Maxwell Quartet, the Ying Quartet and the Horszowski Trio.
