Man City moves closer to EPL title

Manchester City’s 30 victory over Fulham moved Pep Guardiola’s side 17 points ahead of secondplac­e Manchester United in the English Premier League standings with eight games left for City (10 for United).

Everton was previously in the title mix but a 21 home loss to Burnley was the latest setback in its attempt to make the top four. It’s Chelsea in the fourth and final Champions League spot even after a 00 draw with Leeds. West Ham can tie Chelsea on Sunday with a victory at Man United and will have a game in hand. The FA Cup final May 15 could see the biggest English soccer crowd since the start of the pandemic, with the government hoping for more than 10,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. Robert Lewandowsk­i scored his Bundesliga­leading 32nd goal as Bayern Munich extended its lead in Germany’s top league with a 31 win at Werder Bremen.

NFL: The Detroit Lions signed tight end Josh Hill, who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints . ... The New York Jets resigned wide receiver Vyncint Smith, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent next week.

Motor sports: Austin Cindric used a dominant performanc­e and a good restart with two laps left for his second straight NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Phoenix Raceway. Cindric won his first season championsh­ip there in November.

Skiing: Katharina Liensberge­r ended Austria’s sixyear wait for a women’s World Cup slalom victory, beating firstrun leader Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States by 0.72 of a second in Are, Sweden.

Tennis: Twotime major champion Garbiñe Muguruza ended her nearly twoyear wait for a title with a 76 (6), 63 win over Barbora Krejcikova in the final of the Dubai Championsh­ips.

Sailing: Team New Zealand and Italian challenger Luna Rossa remained tied 33 in the bestof13 America’s Cup when lack of wind prevented sailing on the scheduled fourth day.
