Big day for UC Davis, San Diego

Hunter Rodrigues was 19for23 passing for 265 yards and three touchdowns and host UC Davis set school records for yards (768) and points in a 7324 win over Cal Poly on Saturday.

UC Davis’ previous record for total yards was 697 against Mesa State in 2020, and the scoring record was 65 versus San Francisco State in 1985.

FBS football was played in the fall, but the FCS season was delayed until spring. UC Davis is 21, Cal Poly 02. Mason Randall was 32for41 for 302 yards with two TDs and one intercepti­on, and host San Diego tied an FCS record with its 39th consecutiv­e conference win, 2713 over Butler.

San Diego (20, 20 Pioneer League) tied Duquesne, which won 39 straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games between 1999 and 2006.

College hockey: Daryl Watts scored at 3:16 of overtime, giving Wisconsin a recordtyin­g sixth national title with a 21 win over Northeaste­rn in the women’s Frozen Four final in Erie, Pa.

College baseball: Jack Leiter, the 19year son of former MLB pitcher Al Leiter, pitched a nineinning nohitter with 16 strikeouts for Vanderbilt, which beat South Carolina 50.

Golf: Matt Jones shot a 1underpar 69 to take a threeshot lead at 10under heading into the final round of PGA Tour’s Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Aaron Wise (75) and J.B. Holmes (67) were at 7under.

NFL: The New York Giants signed former Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a fouryear contract worth roughly $80 million . ... The Los Angeles Chargers agreed on a oneyear deal with offensive lineman Oday Aboushi.

Motor sports: Justin Allgaier snatched the lead after Martin Truex Jr. made a mistake on pit road, and then held off his charge to win the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Kyle Busch raced to his 60th NASCAR Trucks Series victory.

Skiing: France’s Alexis Pinturault won a giant slalom race in Lenzerheid­e, Switzerlan­d, to clinch his first overall World Cup season title.

Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova won the women’s overall title when she placed sixth in a slalom race won by Austria’s Katharina Liensberge­r, who edged U.S. skier Mikaela Shiffrin for the season slalom title.

Soccer: Manchester City’s bid for an unpreceden­ted four major trophies stayed alive with a 20 win over Everton in the quarterfin­als of the FA Cup. City has reached the final of the English League Cup, the quarterfin­als of the Champions League and has a 14point lead in the Premier League.
