Demetrios “Jim” Dimitriou

Jim was born in San Francisco on November 26, 1931. After his father’s untimely passing he moved with his mother and brother to Berkeley. He graduated from Berkeley High School and went on to graduate from the University of California at Berkeley in 1954. After serving as a Naval Officer in the US Navy in the Korean war, he married Agnes Liakos in 1956. Using his GI Bill, he attended and graduated from Hastings School of Law in 1959. For over 50 years, he practiced in the San Francisco Bay Area. He became the leading ethics expert for attorneys and law firms. In addition, he sat on and was the former chair of the Ethics Committee for the Bar Associatio­n of San Francisco as well as the former chair of the California State Bar Ethics Committee. To his accomplish­ments, he also wrote numerous books about ethics and best practices, and he lectured on law practice management throughout the United States and Canada. He was well regarded and well respected in his field, even sought out after he retired from the practice of law. In his free time, he enjoyed fly tying, fly fishing, bird watching, travel and playing bridge.

He is survived by his wife Agnes Dimitriou, his sister in law Julie Dimitriou, his two sons Andrew and Alex, his daughter in laws Nada Blasutto Dimitriou and Angeliki Papamichai­l, his nephew Greg Dimitriou and his niece Dana Romano, his grandchild­ren Nicholas, Elena, and Theodora.
