Eric was born in San Jose, California to Doug and Nancy Sahlin, but grew up in Barrington, Illinois. He returned to California and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Film, Cinema, and Video Studies.

In 1995, Eric circumnavigated the globe. He visited 18 countries on four continents during an eight-month trip, taking thousands of images along the way.

Eric was an architectural, commercial, and editorial photographer and videographer and started Eric Sahlin Photography in 1996. He was also an FAA-licensed drone pilot.

Eric was a member of the American Photographic Artists and Former President of the Northern California chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers.

In 2009, he taught video at the Victoria Institute of Technology in Kisumu, Kenya, as a volunteer with the World Computer Exchange.

Eric passed peacefully at home in Alameda after an 18-month battle with cancer.

He is greatly loved and will be missed by all. For Janice, he was the greatest adventure and love of her life.

Eric is survived by fiancée Janice Lalley, sister Kristin Sahlin, stepmother Edie Sahlin, and step-siblings Julia, Jane, Debra, and Bryan Harre.
