Rosemary Alice Theresa St. Clair Umland “RoRo”

-

Rosemary Alice Theresa St. Clair Umland (“RoRo”) was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was known to her grandchildren as “Nanny”. Rosemary died peacefully on March 17 at the ripe old age of 91. Nanny was born on November 8, 1929, as a third generation San Franciscan to her parents Robert Sr. & Agnes St. Clair. She was predeceased by her parents and her only sibling, Bob St. Clair. Rosemary is survived by her husband: Roy Sr; children: Roy Jr (Toni), Steven (Sue), Janice, and Michelle; grandchildren: Theresa (Scott), Jake (Kim), and Redeana (Gurshish); and great-grandchildren: Alice, Ashley, and a baby who will arrive this summer! Rosemary met the love of her life, Roy, on a blind date set up by her life-long friends Pat & Joe Dykhuizen. Rosemary and Roy were married for 71 years and lived in the same house in South San Francisco since 1953, on the same block as their dear friends the Dykhuizens. She looked forward to their weekly card games that would last late into the night. Rosemary cherished the summers she spent up at the Russian River with the Dykhuizens while they were all raising their children. She felt she was blessed with two additional daughters with Suzy and Kathleen, which remained that way her whole life. Nanny was an avid 49ers fan and had many memories of cheering them on at Kezar, Candlestick, and Levi’s. Nanny relished holidays, especially Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day, and she used to trick the children into believing that every St. Patrick’s Day she would go to City Hall to get her bottom painted green. She was one of a kind and the life of the party with a colorful personality. She will be missed and we encourage her family and friends to raise a toast to her on St. Patrick’s Day in the years to come.
