Merola virtual recital honors Greenawald

- — Joshua Kosman

Sheri Greenawald’s 18year tenure as director of the San Francisco Opera Center — the company’s training wing, which includes the Merola Opera Program — was a period of growth and development for many of the young artists who came through. Now, some of the company’s illustrious alums are gathering virtually for a musical tribute to Greenawald’s leadership.

The benefit concert, titled “Un Gala in Maschera” as a play on the Verdi opera, will bring together six singers from the past two decades of Merola. Sopranos Leah Crocetto and Amber R. Monroe, mezzosoprano Ashley Dixon, baritones Joo Won Kang and Efraín Solís and bassbaritone Christian Pursell will collaborate with pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg in a program of operatic excerpts.

“Un Gala in Maschera”: 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10. $25-$125. www.merola.org
