-

“A life well lived” describes the life of Paul Theodore Remack, age 71, who passed away on February 5, 2021, with his loving wife Linda Theuriet at his side. Paul, the son of Theodore and Cecilia Remack, was born on August 30, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Berwyn, attending St. Leonard’s Grammar School and St. Joseph’s High School in Westchester. He was a serious student known to occasionally carry a briefcase to school. Always the industrious worker, one of Paul’s boyhood jobs was that of caddy at Riverside Golf Club where his love of the game of golf began. Paul continued to enjoy golf in adulthood and coached friends just learning the game. Later as a business owner, he hosted golf tournaments for clients.

Paul graduated with honors from Bradley University (class of 1971), earning a bachelor’s degree in history. The highlights of his years at Bradley included serving as Vice-President of the Student Body at Large, earning a seat on Bradley’s undefeated GE College Bowl Team of 1969, playing chess, and making lifelong friends. Paul’s love of education then led him to the University of Southern California to pursue a Ph.D. in Renaissance History. His studies of the subject at libraries in London for three months necessitated a working knowledge of Latin. Though his attention turned to the world of finance, he completed his studies earning a Master’s degree in history. He continued to develop lifelong friendships. It was during this time that Paul fell in love with California and made it his home. He resided in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other Bay area communities until finally settling in Walnut Creek.

It was in Walnut Creek that he met his wife Linda Theuriet and they were married April 27, 2002. On that day in 2021, they would have celebrated their 20th anniversary.

Paul became a Certified Financial Planner and was co-founder of RG Financial Partners, Inc. and founder and owner of Summit Wealth and Retirement Partners, Inc. At this time he was awarded a master’s degree in Tax from Golden Gate University. For more than 30 years he was a financial advisor in Lafayette and Walnut Creek, before selling his company in late 2014. Many great friendships were made at that time.

In semi-retirement Paul established Remack Associates, Inc. where he continued working with clients and serving as a professional fiduciary. Paul authored Playing the Game: Create Your Legacy and Preserve Your Estate for Future Generations (Morgan James, 2018), a nonfiction work in which Paul’s genuine concern for the welfare and financial well-being of others shines through. He is recognized regionally as an expert in Wealth Transfer and Distribution as well as matters pertaining to the use of Professional Fiduciaries.

He continued his generous support of numerous charities, particularly

St Joe’s High School in Chicago where he chaired the Foundations and Grants Committee and later served on the Board of Directors.

Paul had a real zest for life. With his wife Linda, Paul enjoyed life and the fruits of his success, taking numerous trips to Europe, and traveling throughout the U.S, appreciating art museums, collecting art, and practicing different languages. He showcased the wineries of Napa Valley to visitors, enjoying delicious wine and great food, planning and preparing feasts for family and friends. He appreciated fine dining and was a great chef, often pouring over recipe books and food magazines for some new dish to try. He cheered on CAL football and basketball teams. Paul was a voracious reader and enjoyed books on history, biographies, and mysteries. He enjoyed conversations about classic books with his wife’s son Will. He relished basking in the sun in his backyard swimming pool, floating and according to him ‘meditating’.

Paul looked forward to his Sunday morning phone calls with his sister Marilyn in Chicago. He loved his cat Gracie and the feeling was mutual. Paul enjoyed many types of music and foreign films. He frequently could be seen wearing earphones listening to one of his 200 CDs while working or writing. He wrote numerous heartfelt poems to his wife. Only those who knew Paul well were aware of his difficulties attributed to a bad back and numerous back surgeries .He boasted about predating COVID behavior by orchestrating a drive-by confession with the local priest prior to his first surgery. His wife claims that he was the most tenacious and courageous man she had ever met. He religiously worked out with his trainer three times a week, determined to live a full life. Coincidentally, his wife said that a couple of times in the last year Paul stated that if his life would end now, he felt that he had a great life, accomplishing what he wanted to accomplish, experiencing what he wanted to experience.

As one friend stated, “Paul was a shining light to many who came in contact with him and had a heart of gold.” Paul’s well thought out advice, high standards and sound ethics were greatly appreciated by his family and clients.

Paul will be dearly missed by his wife Linda, sister Marilyn Matuszak and her husband Steven, Will Theuriet, Zach Theuriet, and countless other family members and friends.

To honor Paul’s life, please consider making a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America, Project Open Hand, Bay Area Rescue Mission, or to a charity of your choice. A Zoom tribute to Paul will be scheduled later this year.
