Charles Ames Wright
12/09/1946 - 04/11/2021
With great sorrow the Wright family announces the death of Charles Wright after a long struggle with dementia. Charles was a great artist who loved to find common ground among disparate elements and the subtle differences among common elements. Whether working with newspaper photographs, postcards, comics or film, Charles had an uncanny ability to combine found images in order to form a new whole. His films and photomontages are dynamic, dramatic, energetic, and whimsical. He discovered lyrical beauty in the disposable detritus and ephemera of our culture. Above all, Charles was funny at work and play, a wry master wordsmith and punster. In his quiet and self-effacing way, he was often the most amusing person in the room. His work can be seen at CharlesWrightphotomontages.com.
He is survived by Helene, his wife of 42 years, his children Elizabeth and David (Erin) and his three grandchildren Safia, 7, Abel, 5, and Esa, 3. He also leaves his three brothers, Ted, Stephan, and Anthony, and their wives and children.
There will be a private ceremony to place his ashes next to his parents in Inverness. A celebration of his life is to be announced. A gentle soul, he will be greatly missed.
