Meredith “Mimi” Johnson

Meredith “Mimi” Johnson (Meyer) passed away peacefully in her home on March 27, 2021 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband John Johnson, her children, daughter Jennifer and son Michael (Catherine), grandchildren Brianna, Sophia, Nolan, Julia, and Amelia; and predeceased by her older brother Ernest Meyer. She is also survived by her sister in law Gay Meyer, and nephew Doug Meyer and niece Kim Eisert. Mimi was born to Roberta and Ernest Meyer on July 8, 1939 in San Francisco. She was raised in the Sunset District and attended Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln High School. It was at Lincoln where she met the love of her life, John, and they were married June 17,1961. Their main joy together was being with family and friends, some of whom they double dated with in high school. After graduating from SF State University (B.A. Education), Mimi followed in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother and began her 50 year career as a teacher for both the SFUSD at Bessie Carmichael and at Lakeside Presbyterian Center for Children. It was at Lakeside where she spent 43 years as a Kindergarten teacher and then as Assistant Director. Mimi will always be remembered as a dedicated and talented educator who loved her students like they were family. She often followed the progress of her students and found so much joy in seeing their achievements. Mimi was a long time member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church serving several terms as a deacon. She was also a proud member of the PEO Chapter OX. Mimi touched countless lives and her absence will be felt deeply. Beyond her intellect and love of her family was her special relationship with chocolate, namely See’s Candies. It wouldn’t be Mimi’s house if there wasn’t at least one box of See’s within reach. We know Mimi is surrounded by her favorite chocolate and watching over everyone she loves. The family would like to thank her incredible caregivers, Mary, Margaret, Nancy, Susan, Anna, and Linda whose care and devotion was extraordinary. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mimi’s name to Lakeside Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
