McCarter, Magid to bring funk to downtown park

- — Anne Schrager

Downtown San Francisco is beginning to feel like it’s waking up again. Take as a bit of evidence Oakland trumpet player/ DJ Will Magid and soul singer Ziek McCarter of Con Brio, who are set to perform an outdoor show with jazz and funk elements on Thursday, April 29, mixed in with a deep palette of multicultural sounds sampled from around the world.

These two creative minds will provide an Afropop and soultinged set during the second installment of the newly hatched Yerba Buena Gardens Festival PopUp lunchtime music series, offering a solid opportunity for a dose of midday dancing and entertainment for those around the YBCA grounds.

The program is scheduled to provide free performances weekly through May, with the hope that it will continue into the summer months.

Will Magid and Ziek McCarter: Part of Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Lunchtime Pop-Up Series. Noon-2 p.m. Thursday, April 29. Free. YBCA Gardens, Mission Street between Third and Fourth streets, S.F. 415-543-1718. ybg festival.org
