-

The Toronto Maple Leafs were founded in 1917. More than 103 years later, Joe Thornton became the oldest in franchise history to score a goal.

The longtime Sharks mainstay, who went to Toronto in free agency in the offseason, scored his fourth goal of the season at 4:04 of the first period in the Maple Leafs’ 41 win at the Winnipeg Jets.

At 41 years, 296 days, Thornton broke the record set by Allan Stanley at 41 years, 252 days on Nov. 8, 1967.

The Maple Leafs stretched their North Division lead to eight points over the secondplace Jets. In other NHL highlights, Sidney Crosby scored to pass Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux for most 20goal seasons in franchise history (14) as the host Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils 42 . ... Chandler Stephenson scored two firstperiod goals and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the lastplace Anaheim Ducks 51 to extend their lead in the West to four points over the idle Colorado Avalanche.
