Westbrook ties mark in Big O’s hometown

Russell Westbrook tied Oscar Robertson’s NBA record for tripledoub­les with his 181st, finishing with 33 points, 19 rebounds and 15 assists, and Westbrook made two free throws with a second left to give Washington a 133132 overtime victory at Indiana on Saturday night.

Many of those assists went to Bradley Beal, who scored 50 points to help the Wizards move into the No. 9 spot in the Eastern Conference, a halfgame ahead of Indiana.

Westbrook also blocked the Pacers’ final shot. He has 35 tripledoub­les this season and is averaging a tripledoub­le for the fourth time.

And his recordtyin­g game came in the city where Robertson grew up. Before he was “The Big O,” Robertson led Indianapol­isCrispus Attucks to two state high school championsh­ips in the 1950s.

“I take a lot of pride in doing everything I can to impact winning,” Westbrook said. “To be in a conversati­on with Oscar, I just want to thank him because he set the stage. The things he was able to do back in the day has allowed me to do the things that I do today. So I’m appreciati­ve of that, and I’m appreciati­ve of his support as well.”

Domantas Sabonis also had a tripledoub­le, leading the Pacers with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists, and Caris LeVert had 35 points and 14 rebounds.

Nets 125, Nuggets 119: Kevin Durant scored 33 points, including five free throws over the last 21 seconds, and Kyrie Irving added 31 as visiting Brooklyn snapped a four-game skid by rallying to beat Denver. The Nets moved a half-game in front of Milwaukee for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

Grizzlies 109, Raptors 99: Jonas Valanciuna­s had 18 points and 21 rebounds, De’Anthony Melton hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Memphis beat Toronto in Tampa, Fla., to move closer to a play-in spot and stay tied with the Warriors for the eighth spot.

Trail Blazers 124, Spurs 102: Damian Lillard scored 30 points and host Portland moved closer to an outright playoff spot. CJ McCollum added 27 points and Jusuf Nurkic had 17 points and nine rebounds for sixth-place Portland, which has won seven of eight.

Jazz 124, Rockets 116: Georges Niang tied a career high with 24 points and NBA-leading Utah beat visiting Houston to reach 50 victories.

76ers 118, Pistons 104: Joel Embiid scored 29 points, Tyrese Maxey added 22 and host Philadelph­ia won its eighth straight and moved closer to clinching the top spot in the East. Tobias Harris added 18 points for Philadelph­ia, which played without All-Star Ben Simmons (back) and starting guard Seth Curry (hip).
