DeGrom may pitch on Monday

-

Mets righthander Jacob deGrom threw a full bullpen session Saturday and is on track to start one of New York’s games in Monday’s doubleheader against Atlanta, manager Luis Rojas said.

DeGrom exited his most recent start, Wednesday against the Cubs, complaining of soreness in his right shoulder after pitching three innings in which he struck out eight of the nine batters he faced. He told reporters Friday that the issue may have been related to a swing he took in that game.

“I normally get sore back there when I pitch, but not during the game,” deGrom told the New York Post on Saturday. “I think I aggravated it and then I was feeling it when I was on the mound, so I felt like that was the right move to say something. Feeling it throwing is not ideal — I didn’t want to change any mechanics and end up injuring something else.”

DeGrom is 62 with a 0.54 ERA. He has not allowed more than one earned run or five hits in any of his 11 starts.

Buxton returns: Twins center fielder Byron Buxton, who was hitting .370 when a hip strain sidelined him May 6, was activated from the injured list. Buxton played in three games on a rehab assignment with TripleA St. Paul, going 5for9 with a double, triple, two home runs and seven RBIs.

“Buck says he’s feeling great,” manager Rocco Baldelli told MLB.com. “He’s able to do all the things he needs to do. He’s obviously played already, and now, he’s gone through several baseball workouts. So this is a day that I know Buck’s been waiting for.”

Medical report: Mets lefthander Joey Lucchesi, a NewarkMemorial High and Chabot College alum, went on the IL because of inflammation in his left elbow. Outfielder Albert Almora was activated from the IL to take his roster spot . ... The Padres placed former Giants reliever Pierce Johnson on the IL because of right triceps inflammation . ... ExA’s outfielder Matt Joyce (back strain) was placed on the IL by the Phillies.

Briefly: The Reds promoted former Giants lefthander Josh Osich from TripleA Louisville. ... The Mets traded righthander Jacob Barnes, who was designated for assignment Monday, to the Blue Jays for righthander Troy Miller, a Soquel High alum.
