Tatis hurt; Padres rally to beat Reds

-

Rookie Kim Haseong hit a tiebreaking, tworun home run with two outs in the eighth — three innings after he replaced injured shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. — and the Padres beat Cincinnati Reds 75 in San Diego.

Kim’s homer off the Western Metal Supply Co. Building in the left field corner sent Petco Park into a frenzy on a wild day that included Tatis getting hurt again, and Reds first baseman Joey Votto and manager David Bell getting ejected in a wild scene in the first inning.

Tatis left after diving for Tyler Naquin’s RBI single in the fifth. Tatis immediately reached for his left shoulder, which he partially dislocated on a swing in a game against the Giants on April 5.

Padres manager Jayce Tingler said Tatis lobbied to stay in the game but the team wanted to be cautious. He said Tatis felt sore and is listed as daytoday.

“We feel like we’re in a fairly decent position,” Tingler said. “The trainers think it’s nowhere near where it’s been earlier on in the year.” Kim homered on a 12 pitch from former Giant Heath Hembree (12) to score Tommy Pham.

San Diego will go for a fourgame sweep Sunday. The Padres entered the series have lost 13 of 17 games while the Reds entered on a sixgame winning streak.

Nationals, Mets split: Jon Lester pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning to gain his first win for Washington, and Kyle Schwarber backed him with four RBIs on two home runs as Washington beat New York 6-2 for a doubleheader split. Francisco

Lindor had five RBIs on two two-run homers and a single as the Mets won the opener 5-1. Lester, a 37-year-old left-hander, signed a $5 million, one-year contract with the Nationals after six seasons with the Chicago Cubs that included the team’s first World Series title in 108 years. Lester gave up two runs and seven hits in six-plus innings with six strikeouts and no walks. He is 8-1 in his past 11 regular-season starts against the Mets.

Astros 7, White Sox 3: Robel Garcia tied a career high with three RBIs, Carlos Correa homered and host Houston beat Chicago.

Blue Jays 10, Orioles 7: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his major-league leading 23rd homer and later capped Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a go-ahead, two-run double in Baltimore as the Blue Jays ended a five-game skid. Marcus Semien homered twice for Toronto, which scored six runs with two outs in the ninth off relievers Paul Fry and Tyler Wells to stun the Orioles. Ryan Mountcastle recorded his first career three-homer game and Cedric Mullins had his second consecutive multi-homer game for Baltimore, which hit six homers in a game for the first time since Aug. 18, 2016, against Houston.

Red Sox 7, Royals 1: Bobby Dalbec had three RBIs and was a double short of a cycle as Boston won on the road.

Twins 3, Rangers 2: Max Kepler scored the go-ahead run on a second consecutive wild pitch from Texas reliever John King in the seventh inning, and Minnesota prevailed on the road.

Pirates 6, Indians 3: Michael Perez and Bryan Reynolds each hit a three-run home run during the seventh inning and Pittsburgh rallied at home. Perez homered to right off Bryan Shaw (1-2) to put the Pirates ahead. Four batters later, Reynolds hit a 98 mph fastball from James Karinchak into the Allegheny River.
