Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson put on a show at the U.S. Olympic trials on Saturday night, blowing away the field in the 100meter semifinals in a windaided 10.64 seconds, then cruising again in the final to win in 10.86 seconds in Eugene, Ore.

Richardson, 21, could be line for a showdown with Jamaican world champion ShellyAnn FraserPryce in Tokyo.

An overthelimit tailwind prevented the 10.64 from becoming official. The time was 0.01 of a second behind FraserPryce’s top this year.

“She carries such a firecracker,” Richardson’s training partner, Justin Gatlin, said of Richardson. “She’s capable of running 10.5, actually. She can definitely shock the world.”

Among those qualifying for the men’s 100 final, which will be run Sunday, was Fred Kerley. His main distance is the 400 meters, but after running a 9.91 in the 100 earlier this season, he decided to be a short sprinter for this Olympic cycle.

“The bigger plan is still 400 meters for the next coming years,” Kerley said. “Right now, I’m focusing on getting everything correct and getting up my speed up so I can make history.”

Valarie Allman won the discus throw to make the Olympic team, while in the women’s 400 semis, Allyson Felix stayed on track to make her fifth team by qualifying for Sunday’s final.
