Alice Elaine Du Bain passed away peacefully in her home in Kentfield, California on June 12, 2021. Mrs. Du Bain was a homemaker and artist who resided in Kentfield for over 60 years. She was predecease­d by her husband of 58 years, Myron Du Bain. Mrs. Du Bain was born on March 31, 1924 in San Francisco, California. She was the daughter of Martha Joe Aldous Hilliker and Nelson Samuel Hilliker. She attended the San Francisco School of Art when she met Myron Du Bain, an officer in the United States Navy. After marrying on September 30, 1944 during WWII, her husband was quickly shipped off to the Pacific Theatre where he commanded a PT boat.

After the war Mr. Du Bain pursued a career in business rising to become the Chief Executive Officer of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies while also serving on multiple corporate and charitable boards. Mrs. Du Bain was a talented artist who produced over 50 impression­ist paintings while raising the couple’s two children and accompanyi­ng her husband on numerous business trips.

Mrs. Du Bain was proud to be part of one of the early families who settled in California through her great grandfathe­r, James Achilles Douglas. Mr. Douglas arrived in Sacramento, CA on August 14, 1849 and became the first Sheriff of Yolo County in 1855. He settled in Woodland, California. His daughter, Daisy Deane Douglas, moved to San Francisco and raised a family which included the mother of Mrs. Du Bain.

Mrs. Du Bain was a member of Society of California Pioneers, the Town and Country Club and the Lagunitas Club, and regularly attended and supported the San Francisco Opera. She is survived by Cynthia Lynn Du Bain Klinedinst of Rancho Santa Fe, CA and Donald Aldous Du Bain of San Francisco, CA.
