Harriet Rose Johnson (Shafer) was born on July 27th, 1928. Harriet passed away peacefully at home on June 17th with her daughter and grand-daughters by her side.

Harriet was born in San Francisco and lived in the Marina district most of her life. At Marina Junior High she met Mickey Johnson and they became sweethearts. They married after Harriet graduated from Cal Berkeley and went on to have five children. Mom taught elementary school in San Francisco. She was a dedicated and caring teacher. Many of her former students are still in touch with her. She was so proud of them! And she counted many of the Alamo staff as her friends up until her passing. Harriet was an avid reader, a terrific bridge player and a loving cat owner. But her passion was football! Mom and dad had season tickets for the 49ers at Kezar, Candlestick Park and Levi Stadium. Harriet knew every player on the team, and listened to the sports radio channels everyday to keep up with team news. Mom asked to be buried in her 49er t-shirt and cap.

Harriet and Mickey were married for 64 years when Mickey passed away in 2013. She missed him terribly but she was gutsy and independent and knew she had to carry on. A true Leo! Our mother was the glue that held our family together. Mom was so proud of her 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoke often to all of them and was involved in their lives. They came to her with questions and problems, asking her for advice. She never judged them. She loved them all.

An amazing woman, our mother. We each say goodbye with overwhelming sorrow and a broken heart.
