Robert Roy Figone

On June 17th, 2021, Robert Roy Figone passed away at the age of 84. Bob was born to the late Peter and Carlotta (Giannone) Figone in San Francisco on October 5th, 1936. Growing up in North Beach, he attended Sts. Peter & Paul School and then Sacred Heart High School before receiving his bachelor’s degree at St. Mary’s University as well as a Masters in Education from the University of San Francisco.

Nonno Bob was well known for cherishing his time with family, dear friends, and relatives in Canada and Italy. He is survived by his loving wife Liana Tombolini Figone of 61 years, four children, and nine grandchildren; he was a beloved father and grandfather to Jeffrey & Theresa Figone (Marc, Laura), Gina & Steve Gresh (Gino, Bianca), Barbara & Clay Hogan (Stella, Angelica), and Christopher & Denise Figone (Paige, Connor, Nicole). He adored Liana’s extended family as a brotherin-law to Vana & Roger Ferrari and Laura & Richard Azzolino; uncle to Sheri (Ferrari) & late Richard Alioto, Sandra (Ferrari) & Jim Schach, RJ & Christina Ferrari, Vito & Anne Azzolino, Ria (Azzolino) & Tony Pesenti; great uncle to their beautiful children. He was a wonderful brother to Aldo (deceased) Liana G. Figone and uncle to Peter, Joseph, and Frank.

He also garnered a tremendous amount of valued friends and colleagues during his career and community involvement. Bob served in the United States Army Reserves, taught for Sacred Heart High School, and worked for San Francisco Unified School District as an administrator. He was appointed to the San Francisco Library Commission and the California Youth Authority, then served on the Juvenile Justice Commission. He was an active member of The Salesian Boys and Girls Club, San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, Salesian Co-operators, Holy Name Society, Young Men’s Institute, Liguria Club, Olympic Club, and a regent of Hanna School for Boys.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass in honor of Nonno Bob on Thursday, July 1st, 2021, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, San Francisco, at 10:30 am. Please direct donations to The Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Club in lieu of flowers.
