Acuña injures knee, is done for season

-

Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have seasonending surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 54 win over the host Miami Marlins on Saturday.

An MRI exam showed the severity of the injury and the Braves announced shortly before midnight EDT that their threetime AllStar will be out until at least next year.

Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field going for a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. The 23yearold hit the wall and crumpled on the warning track, grabbing his right knee while Chisholm ran out an insidethepark homer.

Acuña is hitting .283 with 24 home runs and 52 RBIs for the threetime defending NL East champs. His place on the NL AllStar team was filled by Padres third baseman Manny Machado.

Yankees 1, Astros 0: In Houston, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole demanded on the mound that manager Aaron Boone let him get the final out, then struck out Yordan Alvarez with a 99 mph fastball on his career-high 129th pitch to cap the shutout. Aaron Judge hit a homer in the third inning.
