The Sharks addressed the need for a change in goal by acquiring Adin Hill from Arizona on Saturday.

San Jose also received a 2022 seventhround pick from the Coyotes in exchange for goaltending prospect Josef Korenar and a 2022 secondround pick.

“We needed a different look and a different approach to our goaltending, and we think that Adin certainly brings that to us,” Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said.

A big goalie standing 6foot6 yet with the reputation as being athletic, a good teammate and competitive, Hill, 25, appeared in 19 games last season with a 991 record, a 2.74 goalsagainst average and .913 save percentage.

“He hit on all the boxes we were looking for,” Wilson said. “If you’re going to give up an asset, you want it to be for someone who fits now and into the future.”

The move pushes embattled goalie Martin Jones closer to the exit. Jones, 31, finished with a subpar .896 save percentage for a third straight season after having provided the Sharks with competent netminding from 201518. It’s expected Jones will be left exposed for Seattle’s expansion draft, and will have the remaining three years of his sixyear, $34.5 million deal bought out after the Kraken take a pass.

“We haven’t made any decisions on that,” Wilson said. “It was really important to acquire this piece, get through the expansion draft.”

Sitting behind Darcy Kuemper and Antti Raanta on the depth chart in Arizona, Hill welcomes the chance he’ll likely get in San Jose.

“I’m ready to embrace the opportunity if it’s given to me,” Hill said.
