Maureen McMeekin

August 2, 1949 - July 2, 2021

The world became a little less interesting on the morning of Friday, July 2nd, 2021, when Maureen “Mo” McMeekin died of heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension, at her home in San Rafael, California, at the age of 71. Maureen was born in New York and carried that attitude with her throughout her life. She was tough, spirited, loving, lovable, kind-hearted, entertaining, ornery, exasperating, stubborn, tenacious, determined, willful, funny, smart, strong, courageous and loyal. A can-do, take no prisoners, my way or the highway force of nature, who put the “control” into “control freak”. Frank Sinatra had nothing on Maureen McMeekin…she did it her “Her Way!” Maureen was a fighter and a survivor defying all odds. She channeled her righteous anger into helping people and making the world a better place through working at various non-profits like Women Inc. in Boston (Development Director) in the 70s and the Berkeley Emergency Food Project (Executive Director) in the 80s. She graduated cum laude from SF State in Broadcast Communications Arts at the age of 40, and went on to produce TV shows for community television. In her later years, she was a technology sales executive in marketing and development for a number of software companies. Maureen leaves behind her brother, Billy, and a slew of broken-hearted friends, medical professionals and caregivers who are already missing her fiery, quirky, inimitable personality and disposition. She was pre-deceased by her father, William and her mother Lorraine, who she cared for in their final days; her beloved brother, Michael; and her devoted 4-legged friends, Coydog Gabriel, aka “Gabbers” and sweet-tempered Doberman, Erin.

Maureen fought like hell to the very end to maintain her independence and autonomy. May she rest in peace and power, free from suffering. And may her memory be for a blessing. Memorial services are pending.
