Leticia Medina Benavides (Sister Leticia), 86, long-time resident of San Francisco and most recently of Walnut Creek was welcomed home by God July 13, 2021. She will be laid to rest July 22 at Church of the Epiphany in San Francisco at noon with visitation and a 1 p.m. funeral mass.

She was born in San Vicente, Mexico, moving to San Francisco in 1951 with her family. Rising from a migrant worker, her life was centered on giving of herself and elevating all around her through education, travel and activism. A former nun with the order of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincente de Paul, she served communitie­s in need in Bolivia, East Los Angeles and Puerto Rico.

After retirement from the order, she worked for the San Francisco Department of Public Health, educating the City’s Latino community about the harms of lead poisoning and also for the Archdioces­e of San Francisco. She held numerous academic degrees.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Amalia and Erasmo, siblings Edilberto,

Amalia and Micaela. She is survived by her sister Irene Glimpse of Visalia, brothers Erasmo (Maria) of Concord and Manuel (Gloria) of San Francisco and several nieces, nephews and friends who are inspired by her legacy of giving unconditio­nally, faith, advocacy for social change, independen­ce and continued knowledge through education and travel.
