Barbara Jane Schulz

-

Barbara Jane Dean was born to Harry and Winifred Dean on July 11, 1927 in San Francisco. She attended St. John Ursuline High School and City College of San Francisco. Barbara met Ralph Schulz at a friend’s wedding. They soon fell in love and married on November 3, 1951. Barbara’s first job was working in a doctor’s office. Later, she and Ralph started a business together, which they named Dean Distributors in order to carry on the Dean name. Barbara was an integral part of the company as it grew and flourished through the years. At the same time, she was a loving and devoted mother to her three children and later a doting grandmother to her six grandchildren who all cherished her. She also graciously volunteered at numerous organizations including the Center for Domestic Violence, the Coyote Point Museum, and FISH, a program that provided transportation for patients to doctor appointments. Barbara was an accomplished athlete. She loved playing tennis with her closest friends, Mrs. Conliffe, Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Roberts, and Mrs. McCormack, and she enjoyed watching the Giants. However, she discovered her greatest passion at the age of sixty when she learned to play golf in order to spend more time with Ralph. She loved the game and quickly became a great player, eventually becoming the Captain of The Olympic Club Women’s Golf Section.

Barbara was a beautiful, intelligent, strong and gracious woman, beloved by everyone who met her. She loved socializing with the community. For many years she hosted an annual Christmas luncheon for her friends.

Barbara passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, with her family at her side. The care and friendship that she received for many years from Bibiana Ochoa was extraordinary, and we are truly grateful to her. Barbara is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Dean Duryea Landtbom. She is survived by her devoted husband Ralph Schulz, son Brad Schulz (Vivian Schulz), son Mark Schulz (Kelly Schulz), daughter Cynthia Schulz (David Stirrat), grandchildren Lindsay Schulz, Drew Schulz, Hilary Schulz Falco (Jon Falco), Michael Schulz, Dean Stirrat, Eliza Stirrat, and granddog Penny Schulz. Our precious Barbara will be sorely missed by us all, but her legacy of love will live on in our hearts forever.

Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, August 30 from 6pm to 9pm (with Rosary Service at 7pm) at Crosby-N.Gray & Co., 2 Park Road, Burlingame.
