Robert Rutter

-

With a heavy heart, the Rutter family announces the death of Robert Rutter, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and uncle.

One of 5 children of George W. A. Rutter and Meredith Ball Rutter, from Chicago, Robert attended University of Illinois and finished his political science degree at Hayward State. After a hitch in the Army, he served the US Post Office and the National Association of Letter Carriers from 1971-2011, as steward and then president of the Greater East Bay Local 1111. Robert is remembered lovingly as a man of great humor and vigorous dedication to his Union cause, where he made many friends over the years. To the end, he enjoyed nothing more than to roast bushels of oysters for the letter carriers’ annual celebrations.

Robert will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Carolyn Edwards Rutter, his sister Mary Rose, his brother David and Dave’s wife, Diane. He was preceded in death by brothers George and Tom. Robert was a devoted father (Sarah), step-father (John, Camden, Lamar, Tommy), stepgrandfather (Tiffany, Sean, Ryan, Chantelle, Jenellie), and uncle (Maria, Laura, Emily, Whitney, Steven, Miles, Christopher, Damien). He welcomed them all into his home amid his beloved northern California.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on August 24th, at Kennedy Grove Regional Recreational Area, 6531 San Pablo Dam Rd, El Sobrante, 11 a.m. at the Whistle Stop Picnic Area. The family welcomes all who wish to join us.
