John Gilbert Alvergue

John passed away peacefully at his home in Lincoln, CA at the age of 83. John was born and raised in San Francisco and was a lifelong SF Giants and 49ers fan. He went to St. Vincent’s School for Boys as a young child, and later attended Washington High School. John was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 until 1961. During this time he met the love of his life and future wife, Patricia Koenig. John was an avid golfer and a member of Green Hills Country Club. He and Pat enjoyed many years playing in golf tournament­s and taking golf vacations. When John and Pat retired they moved to the golf community Rancho Murieta. In 1964 John opened his first delicatess­en at Skycrest Shopping Ctr in San Bruno and later opened a second deli in Diamond Heights in San Francisco. He eventually had John’s Delis’ inside 3 Petrini’s supermarke­ts. John enjoyed many breakfasts at Nick’s Rockaway in Pacifica, and celebratin­g every family occasion at Joe’s of Westlake in Daly City. He was the most positive man you could meet, would always greet you with a smile and laughter, and had a huge heart. John leaves behind Judy Craig, the second love of his life. He is survived by his son John (Mary) and daughter Joan Grech (Paul); grandchild­ren, Tara de Borja (Ian), James and Bridget Alvergue, Jennifer and Jessica Grech, and great-granddaugh­ter Isla Alvergue de Borja. He is also survived by brothersin-law Rich (Joanne) Koenig and Tom (Joyce) Koenig, and nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, mother, Margaret Cabezas, granddaugh­ter, Jamie Grech, siblings, George Alvergue and Alicia Fenili, and sisterin-law Florence Alvergue.
