Barbara “Kellogg” Roza

-

After courageously battling various health issues, Barbara Roza, longtime San Carlos Resident, passed peacefully on August 31st, surrounded by her Family… she was a “Gamer Babe” to the end.

Barbara was born in San Francisco, she moved to San Carlos in her early years where she attended Central Grammar School, then Sequoia High School in Redwood City where she met her Best Friends for Life and served on many Class Reunion Committees. Growing up Barbara and her Family would spend summers in Applegate (Placer County) at her family’s cabin, where her love for horses, swimming and the outdoors were formed. She shared many special stories and memories from this unforgettable time.

Barbara held several jobs, she worked at PG & E in San Francisco as a “Secretary”, where her father was the Chief Accountant, with ties going back to 1903 where her great-grandfather John A. Britton was General Manager of the then called California Gas & Electric and Oakland Gas, Light & Heat Company.

A Parishioner of St. Charles Church in San Carlos since 1953, she taught P.E. at St. Charles School, she was thrilled being surrounded by the students, and they were her biggest fans as well. This is also where her children and grandchildren went to school, and where her great grandson is currently attending.

Barbara was a “people person”, and she was in her element at Sequoia Hospital as a Patient Transport Technician, where she retired after 25 years. She really had a compassionate and genuine way with patients, and co-workers admired Barbara’s bright smile and high energy. In recent years, when she was at Sequoia as a patient, many co-workers remembered her and sought her out, she was definitely a Sequoia Hospital VIP.

By far though, her favorite time was caring for her Grandkids, Ashley and Ryan, picking them up from St. Charles every Monday (early dismissal day), and taking them downtown for lunch at Woolworths or to Burton Park to explore and play. Later, she was devoted to her Grandson Chase’s horseback riding at NCEFT, and spending time with him was dear to her heart. Chase put the twinkle in her eye, and they had an unspoken connection that words could not describe.

In recent years, the added joys of her life were her Great Grandsons, Crosby and Cody, they were such blessings for her, the photo albums she created for them were unmatched. She was a “master” scrapbooker. “What A Wonderful World” by Louie Armstrong was her special song, the lyrics just spoke to her essence, the outdoors and children were her “Wonderful World”. Barbara’s “Happy Places” were Carmel & spending the day at Point Lobos with a sandwich and a Coke basking in the landscape and ocean air. Many fond memories were also made taking fun-filled family vacations at Twain Harte and Lake Tahoe. Memorial Park, Stow Lake and SF Zoo were her local getaways, not-tomention, the SC Hallmark store!

Mom, Nanny, Nan-Pooh, GG, Barbara Lee Lee were among her loving names, she was always present, attending every sporting game or event her family was involved with, she never missed a thing! She loved to kick her heels up and even danced in the San Carlos Chickens Ball. She was a big SF Giants and Warriors fan. Going to family BBQ’s and gatherings wearing her favorite sweatsuits and scarves were the best times for her, she truly lived a simple life and wouldn’t have had it any other way. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Dick; her parents John and Mildred “Noni” Kellogg; she is survived by her daughters Linda (Ross) Allgrove, Jeanine (Sindy Kirsch) Roza, and son Mike (Glynni) Roza; grandkids Ashley (Steve) Irvine, Ryan Allgrove and Chase Roza; great-grandkids Crosby and Cody Irvine. Also surviving Barbara is her sister, Joan Klaus and her nephews Jon, Mark, and Steve Klaus. “Same Team” Forever… A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10:00am at St. Charles Catholic Church, 880 Tamarack Avenue in San Carlos. Any donations in Barbara’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
